Outreach is very important part of our industry, as building community knowledge is crucial for the future of our wetlands. And it all starts with our students!
One of our consultants, Alex Hickling, was lucky enough to head to Beechboro Primary School for a short presentation, education session and bug hunt with some Year 2 & 3 students. Beechboro Primary School have taken part in other outreach activities previously, including interactive staff team building excursions to the Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre.
Students were given an interactive talk about all things marine and aquatic science, and then participated in a bug hunt, finding a variety of invertebrate fauna that live in the local wetlands around the Perth metropolitan area. Students were asked to mark off bugs that they found during their hunt and were also allowed to use microscopes to see some of the smaller organisms found. Who said that learning can’t be fun? Even if it is a bit messy at times….
WRM has participated in similar outreach events previously, assisting with student days at Scitech. If you have any questions about the outreach work that WRM does, please don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
